David and Abigail
by Jenny Wren
Lil David is weary - He and his men are starving too
Hiding from King Saul, who determines what he will do
Away with his friend David, so full of jealousy is he
David is staying calm - God is with David, you see.
Nabil’s house (in festival) in the shearing of his herd
A party is beginning as David is sending Nabal word.
(David sent his messenger to gather in some pay)
For caring of Nabil’s sheep 'twas done day by day
Nabal shouts, "Tell David - Not one thing will I give,
To David’s band of rogues, whom we have to live."
A Mad messenger returns, men’s talking of avenge
David’s fighting mad. On Nabal he swears revenge
His own servants tell of; Master Nabil’s sinful greed
Confides in his wife Abigail of David and his need
Tells how David and men watch over Nabil’s sheep
Take turns in the watch, his sheep to safely keep
Abigail uses wisdom that Mighty God now gave
To furnish David - needed food - her family to save
David’s coming to kill, her household, all her kin
She knows that David will do this dreadful sin
Beast laden with food met David about half-way
On the road with David – Abigail’s to have her-say
David, Nabil’s very dense, sometimes very rude
About business matters, my Nabal is oh, so crude.
David said “Abigail I know you protected our sheep
You and your men worked for them to safely keep,
I now stand for Nabal, please let my household live
Take the food for you, your men, I now freely give
Forgiving ignorance of Nabal that rude man of mine
Here David take your needs for being so very kind.
I do not want a grave sin of murder on your head
Slaying my rude husband and all our household dead."
David relented. He’s appeased as he accepts a feast
From Abigail, Nabal’s wife, knowing it is the least
He could do for this woman, who seems so very wise
Whose kindness took the murder out of David’s eyes
“I wish to thank you Abigail, from deep inside my soul,
Keeping me from this awful sin, with your gift so bold,"
Abigail then returns home, to find her husband drunk
It seems to be the bottom of life’s own cup he had sunk
Waiting until morning to tell Nabal of her saving deed
Nabal was mad, had a stroke (because of unhealthy greed?)
Ten days later Nabal died, the cause a drunken binge
Never regaining consciousness, is this God’s revenge?
Hearing of Nabal’s death, David goes to Abigail’s home
Says "Abigail, it’s not good for you to live here alone."
David asks Abigail "Will you consent to be my wife?"
(See? How Godly-Wisdom wins, even in daily strife?)

1 Samuel 25:23
When Abigail saw David, she quickly got off her donkey and bowed down before David with her face to the ground.

Do you not know how powerful and strong this God we serve is?
He who just speaks or thinks, and things happen? "Who am I, to be a fixer?
Sometimes the Lord actually will let evil rule over us, for a little while, if nothing else but to show his glory. I have seen it all throughout
Scripture, and throughout my life - how many of you right here this day have been dragged low by what another person, may have said to you, as you tried to help them in all seriousness?
They let the contents of their hearts come flying out of their mouth at you; they made fun of you, and you’re trying to help them in their life,
You recognize that they are just going into a lesson of life that you just came out of. You are desiring to help them to detour around it, but seems everyone wants their own experience. It is theirs, so you leave defeated.
Notice: it was Satan using them to harm a child of God.
All too often we can do that, harm another, with the best of intentions. We being made in the image of God, also speaking things
into existence, just by the utterances of our mouth. We create situations with our own words. Our words can leave a friend in better shape or bitter at us (so be careful).
Just as our heavenly Father does, how many have had a day start wrong and go downhill, just because of the word spoken to you? How many husbands and wives hold sway over their mate, with an evil tongue? We are more creative than you think; each of us remember this.
Know the bought lesson is your taught lesson.

Dear Lord, this day is a day for learning new lessons from You. I with a humble heart come to you in prayer that you may show me how to get along with others. I never had trouble before and now it seems people are so hard to even get to know. They trust no one, it seems. Give your forgiveness to each and your love. In Jesus name I pray
